I suppose I should give you my musical background before I just jump right into talking about my current musical situation. And I only remember as far back as 2000, so I'll do my best here.
My mom was a big classic rock fan; we're talking Eric Clapton(Her favorite EVER), Don Henley, The Eagles, Stix, Sting, Kenny Loggins America(Awful...ugh), Journey and Steve Perry, etc.
Dad on the other hand, listened to bands like...Great White, Metallica, AC-DC, aaaand you get the picture. 80's hair bands and the such, although we never really listened to it.
Growing up with this stuff, with parents that liked music, well, it was cool. And as we got older, we listened to more variety. I can't actually say what changed, because my brain isn't quite..um...working correctly right now, but it changed a little.
Then, in late 2008, a friend of mine discovered this thing called Christian Rock. Now, keep in mind that I really only listened to stuff the parents already had, or country radio.
So, the heaviest music I had listened to was maybe one song by...I want to say AC-DC, but I'm not entirely sure.
So anyway, after a lot of urging from my friend, I was intrigued, and tried to listen to some of it. But then realized that the majority of the music was far to heavy for my tastes.
It wasn't until the band Capital Lights came into the spotlight of my music listening that I started hearing more bands and liking them. Skillet was number two. Superchick was was also one of the first along with A Rotterdam November, Plumb, Hawk Neslon(OH YEAH!!!), aaand very possibly about 6 other bands. I got a list of these bands. And listened to them all at once. At the same time. Ok, so maybe not, but it's cool to think about.
Well, as you know, the bands you started out listening to and your favorite bands now are two completely different things. Some remain the same, but as you find more music, things change.
My absolute favorite bands now are(In no particular order): Thousand Foot Krutch, Skillet, Kutless, Demon Hunter, 3 Doors Down, 12 Stones, Abandon, Ashes Remain, Disciple, Family Force 5, General Ghost, Hawk Nelson, Manafest, Paper Route, RED(R3D), The Afters, The Showdown, You And What Army and Daft Punk. There are probably more though. And there are definitely more bands I listen to. Just look at my profile. Yikes!
Anyways, here is a picture of a small part of my CD collection.
It's fuuuun. I have 5 Thousand Foot Krutch CDs and one in the mail! Yay!
Have a good evening! Or, in most parts of the country....morning! Happy...oh wait, I don't observe that holiday, let me fix that: Happy Single Awareness Day!
