Agh! So much STUFF happening with Star Wars right now! Remember when it was simple? A New Hope released, world goes absolutely crazy with wonder. George Lucas is idolized, and more movies are released along with merchandise which makes good ol' George quite wealthy, and inspiring authors to write a few books and some artists to do comic books. Good, very good. Simple enough.
See? Without the true video game craze, things were very simple, and easy to keep track of.
NOW, they have a million different games, comic books, novels, and a TON more merch items than all the books combined. Plus all the fan fiction, fan news sites, some that make a difference, and those that are just for fun and that the owner doesn't expect much other than that.

Just to list a few current happenings that I can bring to you using memory(Oh no...), let's try this.

George Lucas apparently told the world that all EU is now non-canon. Meaning only the movies, Clone Wars and maybe a few other things he deems worthy are actually part of the TRUE story. Bah, as a die hard SW fan, I will ALWAYS think of the books, some games, and comics as canon. George probably did this so he could continue making the Clone Wars and other movies the way he wanted without having to conform to what the books say. Hmm....

And of course the vague rumors of Georg planning the 7th, 8th and 9th movies...supposedly there will be a 1000 year difference between those 3 movies and the original trilogy. Should be interesting.
That and the other rumor about a Boba Fett movie. That would make me VERY happy should that happen. As long as they get good actors and as long as they stick to what the EU says, because that is EVERYTHING about B. Fett. If they do go through with all of this, I hope they do a good job.

Ok, my memory just kicked the bucket. Sheesh, can't it last long enough for a simple blog post?! Oh well, so there are a few things that are happening, and yes, you have probably heard all about it from thestarwarstalkshow.blogspot.com or the Star Wars Underworld(Not sure what the URL is, but it's on blogger), but maybe not all of you.
Enjoy!

Book Review: "The Wrath Of Darth Maul"

For those of you who don't want to buy a book before you read it, but don't want to go to the library because you don't feel like it(or are too lazy), I am going to give some book reviews on select books that I really enjoyed or extremely disliked.

Today we have "Wrath Of Darth Maul", a fairly new novel that was printed in January of this year(2012).
This novel focuses on Darth Maul's past, mostly his training, leading up to the events of The Phantom Menace. The whole story revolves around one thing: His survival from being cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi and falling down the reactor pit in the Naboo Royal hanger area.
As many of you know, the 'Resurrected' Maul will be making an appearance in The Clone Wars TV show this week(sometimes around this week or last). This book was written to accommodate those episodes by having it start with an apparently insane Maul surviving in the tunnels of Lotho Minor, then moving on to flashbacks starting when he was 3, then progressing through the years of his training that were the most important in the shaping of this Sith Lord.

Down to the review...

I thought it was well written and well put together(Ryder Windham authored the novel), and it contained a very good story. For all of those SW fans who wondered about Maul's past, wonder no longer! It's all here, including a slightly underplayed "Rite of passage" that all Sith have to go through. What I mean is, all Sith have to make a sacrifice. Kill someone they love. Maul did that, but it didn't seem like too large of a sacrifice, and it may have been because Maul is more animal than any other Sith I have ever heard about. Either way, that was slightly disappointing.

I'm out of time, so I'll say this: It was a good book. It developed Maul's character better than the movie ever could, and answered a lot of questions.
I recommend it for sure.

Doctor Who?

Oh man, look out world, I have discovered the Doctor Who TV show.
For those of you who don't know what that is, it used to be a comic book series that was started sometime in the early 60's I'm guessing. Since the 1960's it has become a BBC production that has lasted and is still going now in 2012.
It is about a man called The Doctor; a Time Lord who travels through time and space saving planets and civilizations from certain doom.
Over the course of the show, there have been 11 'Doctors'. They are all the same man, but different actors at times. The main reason this is plausible, is because the main ability The Doctor has is regeneration. Whenever his body becomes too 'weary' or 'beaten' or is simply ready to move on, he regenerates and gains a new body. So he is the same person, although his appearance and personality changes.

Anyway, last year some time I found out they had rebooted the TV show(Meaning they continued the storyline with a new actor), and have been doing so since around 2005 or so.
Just the other day is when I decided to check it out. And I must say, it is quite good! Complete with adventure, goop old fashioned British sci-fi elements, action, aliens and monsters, and of course the mind boggling concept of time travel. They do an epic job of making the whole story flow. Sometimes he will meet people from his future, and then later the new doctor will meet them, things like that. And much more complicated aspects as well.
It's brilliantly done, wonderfully British in it's humor/humour, and all around great.

I rate it PG on most and MAYBE a PG-13 on a few. That I've seen anyway.

Fun Fact(?): The 39 Clues: Real Life Names!

Hello everybody! I have added another 'Post Type' today; "Fun Fact(?)"! It's where I find interesting things in real life that are related to something in fiction, or where I find something that I have to share with you and force you to start reading by using completely false, catchy titles.

So lately I have noticed more and more people with the last name Cahill. Kind of odd, since almost all of them are involved with large companies or are either actors/actresses, Athletes, Artists and finally Politicians. Sort of reminiscent of a certain book series...
Examples:
#1: A band called Cahill named after Tim Cahill.
#2: Bernard J.S Cahill, American Architect and cartographer.
#3: Eddie Cahill, American actor.
#4: Gary Cahill, English Football player.
#5: Joe Cahill, Irish Republican and IRA Leader.

It might be important to note that the name Cahill is of Irish origin. In Irish, It is the anglicized version of the Gaelic "Ó Cathail" meaning "descendant of Cathal." "Cathal" consists of two parts: "cath" means battle; the second could be "val" (rule), so that the name as a whole meant "battle ruler" or "strong in battle", or it could be "all" (great), so that the name as a whole meant "great warrior".

So, there is your "not-so-fun(Maybe, depends on your definition of fun)-fact" for the day.
Enjoy!

From the Sanctuary #1: CD Collection.

I suppose I should give you my musical background before I just jump right into talking about my current musical situation. And I only remember as far back as 2000, so I'll do my best here.

My mom was a big classic rock fan; we're talking Eric Clapton(Her favorite EVER), Don Henley, The Eagles, Stix, Sting, Kenny Loggins America(Awful...ugh), Journey and Steve Perry, etc.

Dad on the other hand, listened to bands like...Great White, Metallica, AC-DC, aaaand you get the picture. 80's hair bands and the such, although we never really listened to it.

Growing up with this stuff, with parents that liked music, well, it was cool. And as we got older, we listened to more variety. I can't actually say what changed, because my brain isn't quite..um...working correctly right now, but it changed a little.

Then, in late 2008, a friend of mine discovered this thing called Christian Rock. Now, keep in mind that I really only listened to stuff the parents already had, or country radio.
So, the heaviest music I had listened to was maybe one song by...I want to say AC-DC, but I'm not entirely sure.

So anyway, after a lot of urging from my friend, I was intrigued, and tried to listen to some of it. But then realized that the majority of the music was far to heavy for my tastes.
It wasn't until the band Capital Lights came into the spotlight of my music listening that I started hearing more bands and liking them. Skillet was number two. Superchick was was also one of the first along with A Rotterdam November, Plumb, Hawk Neslon(OH YEAH!!!), aaand very possibly about 6 other bands. I got a list of these bands. And listened to them all at once. At the same time. Ok, so maybe not, but it's cool to think about.

Well, as you know, the bands you started out listening to and your favorite bands now are two completely different things. Some remain the same, but as you find more music, things change.

My absolute favorite bands now are(In no particular order): Thousand Foot Krutch, Skillet, Kutless, Demon Hunter, 3 Doors Down, 12 Stones, Abandon, Ashes Remain, Disciple, Family Force 5, General Ghost, Hawk Nelson, Manafest, Paper Route, RED(R3D), The Afters, The Showdown, You And What Army and Daft Punk. There are probably more though. And there are definitely more bands I listen to. Just look at my profile. Yikes!

Anyways, here is a picture of a small part of my CD collection.

It's fuuuun. I have 5 Thousand Foot Krutch CDs and one in the mail! Yay!

Have a good evening! Or, in most parts of the country....morning! Happy...oh wait, I don't observe that holiday, let me fix that: Happy Single Awareness Day!

Small Talk #1: Star Wars Episode I in 3D.

Ok so, you know the whole thing about Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 3D? I am here to give my 'invalid' opinion.
First off, I know I am late since everyone has already given their pre-opinions, and now are in the process of giving their post-opinions. Meaning that they have seen the movie already.

To be honest, I have never seen a movie in 3D, which is why my opinion is invalid. But enough of this, let's get to it.

Even though I have never had the urge to see a movie in 3D(I think it's a cool idea, but it's mostly a money squeezer for film makers), this actually intrigues me. Quite a bit.
I just don't want to be disappointed. If it's just a fancy looking version, then well, psh, forget it.
If they included the extended Podracing sequence and some of the other deleted scenes, then it would be worth is just to see that version in the theater.

Ok, so my picture uploader isn't working, so you can't see a promotional poster picture for the film, but it's cool. It has Darth Maul wearing 3D Glasses and all the required names of the cast, producers, blah blah blah.

On to another point, about my opinion on 3D versions in general. Personally, as an old fashioned kind of guy, I don't think 3D is really necessary. Sure, it's probably really cool, and adds a new element to the story that you've never seen before, but is it really that good? I really don't want to see Jar Jar Binks's tongue sticking out of the screen at my face...please no.

Ok, I'm out of time here, so let me know what you think in the comments below please!

The beginning of something good/better.

So you may have noticed my other blog getting a little bit personal when it comes to posting. I tend to blog about things that apply to my life. Not exactly something everyone is going to read. Even if it does have a good point at the end.
So this blog will be about 3+1 of my favorite things: Star Wars, Music and God/Politics. Ok, so politics is NOT one of my favorite things, but it's what people want to talk about, so I can make the exception this time.
BUT, Star Wars, Music and God take precedence.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy future posts!

~StaWaMu.

UPDATE:

As you well know by now, this blog is primarily for device reviews, tech talk and geekery. Absolutely NO politics. Ick. Ew. Gross. No thanks.
