UPDATE and Review!

Ok so I know I linked to my Tumblr(What a way to greet you guys with a new post!) but to be honest, I don't post stuff or reblog stuff...its yet another social network/blog site that I have to learn or spend time on and frankly...I don't HAVE that time. I only check it maybe once a month, maybe 3 times a month. So if I don't post anything, its not that I don't care its just that....well, I don't care...(Do you see where I'm going with this?). In other words, if you expected anything out of following me, I'm sorry, I seem to have thought I could follow through with something I can't. Unfortunately that happens and I promise I'm working on changing that about myself.

IN OTHER NEWS:
A LOT has been going on in the technology world, good and bad(Don't get me STARTED on the new iPhones[s]) and thought I would cover some of the big news. THEN I thought "Wait a minute, that's what sites like CNET, TechCrunch, Engadget and much more are for... ". So why do I need to do that to you guys? I'd forgotten I am a REVIEW blog.  So in light of that, I have a review for you guys!

If any of you have heard of the small audio brand NoiseHush, you know what I'm about to talk about. NoiseHush(I'm going to call them NH from now on) who makes a wide range of bluetooth devices(Including Carkits yay!) and other audio products, recently released a bluetooth clip-on receiver that  tethers to your phone/tablet/random-
My rating on it would be 8.5 out of 10. Which for me, is very high. When it comes to electronic devices, I am a critic like no other...(My phone receives a solid 4 :p).
Now that we've gone over the good, lets go over the bad. I can think of some legitimate not so good things and a few trivial things(They count though..I'm a critic, remember?).

bluetooth-capable-media-device and has a 3.5mm jack to plug your earbuds/headphones into. What this essentially allows you to do is leave you music player(Phone, Tablet, Bluetooth enabled PC/Laptop etc) across the room while you listen to your music though your earbuds! Its extremely handy, has decent quality, excellent range of volume and to top it off, it even looks cool! It comes in several colors, has a pause/play(Also doubles as an answer/end call button. Did I mention it has a microphone?)
#1: If you have a high quality pair of earbuds and expect that quality to be the same with the NH, prepare to be disappointed. I have a pair of Vers Bass Boosted earbuds(Walnut) and when they are plugged directly into my tablet/phone/laptop, the quality is phenomenal. HOWEVER, when I plug them into my NoiseHush and tether them to the same devices via bluetooth, the quality is standard. I mean, yeah its pretty darned good, but don't go expecting things like bass boost to be part of the package.
#2: If you have earbuds that have a pause/play function and you want to use that instead of the NH controls, don't expect them to work. This might seem obvious, but you never know, it might've worked! However I only tested this with one pair of earbuds. Give it shot!
#3: I have not gotten it to work with Skype yet.....as far as I can tell the audio protocol is not static so the use of a device such as this is not feasible...sadly..
#4: The charging cord is not MicroUSB and its a little short....BUT it does charge quickly and its small enough to be very convenient. So this is almost a non-negative.

I'm still learning more about this device as I use it so a 'full' review probably isn't possible at this time. If you guys have any questions about the device, let me know, or go to thinkgeek.com and search for NoiseHush. You can also visit the NoiseHush website where they have many other products at noisehush.com.
If any of you like remote audio products, I hope you consider this one!

Doctor Who rant...

Alright, so we all know that Matt Smith has done one of the BEST acting jobs on BBC's 'Doctor Who', and we ALL expected him to be back for series 8...HOWEVER....just last night, BBC announced that he would in fact be regenerating in this years Christmas Special..therefore ending the reign of Matt Smith.....
Ever Whovian everywhere did something like this...
So I'm mad...they had BETTER wrap up all of the little(and big) mysteries that are tied to Eleven before he goes...

And that's pretty much all I wanted to say..other than that Matt Smith has made it into my Favorite Doctor spot. Tennant held this place before but after watching Nightmare in Silver and then Name Of The Doctor as well as considering all of the other emotional performances Smith has done...he slid into #1 with Tennant being RIGHT behind him in line.

Matt Smith has brought so much to Doctor Who and we are all grateful for the direction he has taken the show.
That being said, in the long run, it IS just a show and I can't wait to see where they go with it.

Thats it for now, it took me two days to finish this. Geez, time...where does it go? ;)

Music Projects and Update.

In the past I believe I've mentioned ServoDomini, my music project, and how it was slow in starting. Wellll, I finally started some serious recording. 'Started' being the keyword...things are still slow, but at least I have it going. I had a buddy of mine over yesterday to get my new equipment set up, and once we did, we had a blast testing it out. We made our first collaboration recording that is currently available for listening on SoundCloud. It's not yet available for download as far as I know, but that will change soon.

The electric guitar and bass in the track are real instruments played by CloudLyte and I respectively, while the rest of the instruments are VSTs(Virtual instruments).

I used the recording/mixing program MixCraft(version 6).

How about some links....to my twitter, SoundCloud and....well if I had a Facebook I'd post that too, but not yet! I am still to busy to update that regularly....I need a clone of myself sometimes!
Be warned!! My soundcloud account has a few of my earliest attempts at recording and...well, they aren't that good. Open minds...ha...

Twitter: https://twitter.com/ServoDomini

Enjoy! And thank you for checking it out!

UPDATE:

Yes, while those projects still exist, and while I have gotten considerably better at recording and playing music, ServoDomini isn't really on my list of priority projects right now. I'll probably end up using it as a shell to promote my 2016 projects since its still technically a live wire.

Thanks!

Ubuntu Mobile OS and all that jazz....

Some pretty exciting things have been happening in the mobile world lately, this morning especially.

To list a couple that stand out:
The HTC One phone was unveiled/Announced this morning. Cnet was one of the many organizations covering the event. The phone is said to run for $199.99 for 32GB version and $299.99 for the 64GB version. THAT my friends, is marketing. It has 2GB of RAM, a 1.7 GHz Quad Core CPU(Qualcomm Snapdragon), a 2.1MP front facing cam and a 4MP rear cam with Ultra Pixel technology which apparently makes the image the equivalent to a 8-13MP cam. So don't judge before you try it!

The Ubuntu Tablet OS was revealed today, making it the 4th platform Ubuntu is officially on. They have covered TV, Smartphones(Releasing Oct. 2013), and Desktop/Laptop computers.

I plan to make the eventual switch to 'everything Ubuntu', but until that day comes, I've been working on getting everything over to Android, or Android compatible, in a manner of speaking.
Since Ubuntu and Android share the same Kernel(Linux) it will be simple to run the two OS's side by side without having to reboot or change much of anything.

That does it for today, the interwebz are abuzz with more articles and resources pertaining to these two subjects I've covered, so enjoy the browsing!

Google Nexus Q Search

So...a while back, there was this big hype about a device called the Nexus Q...it was supposed to be a big thing, except it wasn't. After the initial explosion of attention, it quietly died down, and I didn't hear anything for several months.
NOW, that I am getting my setup all...set up...I kinda want to find out where I can get one. So if anyone knows ANYTHING about where I could acquire one of these elusive devices, please comment!
Or just shoot me a tweet https://twitter.com/ServoDomini

Thanks ya!

UPDATE: Turns out, I'm not bothering with the Nexus Q. I am instead going with a Rikomagic MK802 IIIS Android Mini PC. BOOM. Does more than the NQ.

CES Rant. And LINKS!

Hello all!

So CES has come and gone and I'm left feeling slightly let down.
Don't get me wrong, CES is amazing and its full of amazing gadgets and tech, but I don't think the media(whatever faction) covered it very well. I heard very little about what was happening, and I can usually find stuff that's hard to get at.

So where was the coverage? To my knowledge, there wasn't any other big events happening. Unless of course there just wasn't enough to be excited about and they had to choose carefully.
I'm actually leaning towards that option. To be honest, compared to CES 2012...from what I saw, CES 2013 wasn't that special. Everyone seems to have announced their groundbreaking news earlier this year or late last. But hey, I'm still a huge supporter and fan, and if I had been there, I'm sure my opinion would be altered. Maybe next year eh?

For those of you who don't know what CES is:
CES stands for Consumer Electronics Show/Showcase, and it is basically a time for all of the major(and not so major) corporations, media groups, software engineers, mobile companies, etc to come together and announce their upcoming projects. Some of them(as seen this year with the Oculus Rift) are not even out of prototype stages.
Its also a time for everyone to go and party. With said gadgets....
The gathering is held at the Las Vegas Convention Center and usually starts in January and ends a day or two later.

Here are some links to groups that reviewed the gathering this year:

CNET:

Engadget

TechCrunch
http://techcrunch.com/events/ces-2013/coverage/

CRN

Overall, CES seemed to be a success, and I can't wait for 2014's turn.
Enjoy!

Regular update plus BOOKS. Post #

Hello all!

I swear, one of these days I'll fall into routine blogging.
Heeey, I just realized that I had an entire week to make as many posts as I wanted!
It just so happens that I got sick after my last snowboarding trip. Yeah, no fun. Then my eardrum ruptured one night. So my hearing is shot, but hey, its life. Right?

I just wanted to update you guys on whats going on, give a little but of info, insight to...well, not my personal life. Much anyway, Ha!

So I was forced to make a deal with a friend recently...I was to read the Percy Jackson series and she was to read most of Brandon Sandersons books. I must say...I'm hooked now. I do love other worlds and fiction as a general rule, but these are really good books. I don't care if the age group is supposed to be 12-15. It should be 12+.
Oh yeah...and I have to read the other spin off series as well.

But Brandon Sanderson still beats Rick Riordan. Sorry Rick...its nothing personal, he's just...better than you.

Outro:

In case you didn't read the beginning to my post, I got sick after my snowboarding trip. Like, the DAY after. I've been flat on my back since. Trying to get back into the world here!! Let me know if I missed anything important.

Anyways...its closing in on lunch and I don't want to miss it! ;D
